Sunshine and Health Early Nudist Magazines, the U.S. Supreme Court and Postal Bans

ebook

"Sunshine and Health" was one of a number of nudist magazines titles that became controversial in the 1940s and 1950s. Their presence on newsstands, especially near school districts, was taken on by district attorneys in Albany, New York, the Tri-Cities area and elsewhere. This was an era when publishers argued that nudist magazines were simply promoting the benefits of health and nature. The publications' detractors countered that they were offensive to young people and families. The U.S. Postmaster General tried to curtail the publication of new issues of naturist literature.
