"[A] beautifully crafted, exceptionally poignant love story.''—Library Journal
Can she ever trust another "bad boy"?

India Sommers once had the perfect family—until an ex-boyfriend broke in and shot her husband. Not only did that cost her the man she loved, a respected heart surgeon and the father of her child, but she also feels responsible. Charlie died because of the people she hung out with before she had the strength to change her life.
Just after moving to Whiskey Creek with her little girl, Cassia, to start over, she's learned that her ex-boyfriend's trial ended in a hung jury. He's getting out of jail; he could try to find her again. And that's not all that scares her. She's extremely attracted to her next-door neighbor, but Rod Amos is the handsome "bad boy" type that's given her so much trouble in the past. If she got involved with him, her in-laws would sue for custody of Cassia.
India has to keep her distance from Rod—but the more she gets to know him, the more difficult that becomes.

Terrified and furious when an unbalanced ex-boyfriend murders her husband in front of her, threatens her daughter, and then goes free for lack of evidence, ceramics artist India Sommers knows it's up to her to find proof. Still, it won't be easy. She certainly doesn't want to involve her hot, attractive neighbor. But Rod Amos, fiercely protective and a bit of a knight in shining armor, is not about to be left out, especially when his relationship with India becomes more serious. Once again, Whiskey Creek's authentic rustic flavor and endearing characters draw readers in to a story that keeps emotions running high and the pages turning. A secondary love relationship adds a dash of angsty fun and hints at another story down the road. VERDICT A heroine fighting for her future and a hero who has her back fall for each other in another heartfelt addition to Novak's gold-dusted series. Novak (A Winter Wedding) lives in the Sacramento, CA, area.

India Sommers once had a thing for bad boys, but when she met caring, dependable, sweet Charlie Sommers, everything changed. Unfortunately, about a year ago, India made the mistake of trying to help Sebastian Young, one of her old boyfriends. He thought this meant she was still interested in him, and he showed up at her home late one night, high on meth and carrying a gun. By the time the night was over, India's life was shattered. Now she has moved to Whiskey Creek, hoping to build a new future for herself and her daughter, Cassie. When she meets her new next-door neighbor, bloody and bruised Rod Amos, walking down the road late one night, she knows the smart thing to do is just keep going, but her heart tells her something else. The latest in Novak's (This Heart of Mine, 2015) Whiskey Creek series delivers another potent emotional punch as the author deftly integrates topics such as coming to terms with one's past and the importance of forgiveness into another beautifully crafted, exceptionally poignant love story.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2016, American Library Association.)
